Jean Rutledge, 78 year old Woodward resident, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the First Baptist Church in Woodward with the Reverend Tony Barros officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Alma “Jean” Gardner Rutledge was born September 25, 1936 in Fort Supply, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Harold Leslie and Lora “Elfreida” (Teeters) Gardner. Her father purchased his father’s homestead in Quinlan and the family settled there. Jean graduated from Quinlan High School in 1954. On June 9, 1956, Jean was married to Carl Duane Rutledge in Quinlan. They made their home in Goodwell. To this union, three children were born, Tracy, Travis and Tonja. Jean graduated from Panhandle A & M with a Bachelor of Science degree and the family moved to Wynnewood where Carl taught and coached football. They moved back to Woodward in 1965. While her children were young, Jean stayed home. In 1977, she began her career in Real Estate working with Figley and Salz until her retirement. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Woodward. She taught Sunday School, served on the Building Committee, sang in the choir and was very involved in the church. Following her retirement her greatest love were her grandkids and great grandkids. Jean was also an excellent cook and quilter. Jean is survived by her son, Travis Rutledge and wife Lisa; daughter, Tonja Mead and husband Pat, both of Mooreland; daughter-in-law, Kelie Grounds and husband Chris of Hooker; grandchildren, Amanda Nielsen and husband Jason of Mooreland; Trevor Wells and wife Ashley of Woodward; Lora Imler and husband Ryan of Mooreland; Traci Rutledge of Seminole; Shawn Mead and wife Laura of Dodge City, Kansas; Jeston Mead and wife Jhaymie of Holcomb, Kansas; Kolton Mead; Jade Elliot both of Dodge City, Kansas; great grandchildren, Claire and Hagen Nielsen; Emma Wells; Lyvia Imler; Sam and Julia Mead; Jeci Jaymes Mead; sisters, JoAnna Gardner of Mooreland; Sondra Moore of Guthrie; two brothers-in-law, Bill Kerchner; Larry Rutledge both of Woodward; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Tracy Rutledge; one grandson, Seth Rutledge; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Lily Rutledge; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kerchner. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Woodward or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with the funeral home accepting the memorials.
