Jake Allen Walker

Jake Allen Walker, 65, passed away from cancer on Sunday, March 10, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas with his beloved wife Pam (Wilson), daughter Tammy (Joshua) of Elk City, Oklahoma, son Casey (Stephanie) of Lake Lotawana, Missouri and other loved ones near.

Jake was born December 4, 1953 in Mooreland, Oklahoma to Patricia Anne (Frye) and Jack D. Walker. He was the second of five brothers. Dan (Lyndee) of Fort Worth, Texas, Mick of Quinlin, Oklahoma, Gus of Alva, Oklahoma and Bill (Karen) of Woodward, Oklahoma survive him.

Freedom, Oklahoma was his claim to a hometown. He attended school there and graduated from Freedom High School in 1971. During his early adulthood Jake worked as a hand for the Lee Trammel family before attending Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas. Later he returned to Freedom where he was employed at Schroeder Feedlot, the Freedom Farmer's Co-op, and for Woods County.

A move to Reno, Nevada took him away from Northwest Oklahoma for nearly 20 years. There he raised his two children. In June of 1994 he married the love of his life Pam (Wilson). Jake was employed by Sierra Pest Control, as well as being an antique dealer and furniture refinisher.

He returned to the flatlands in 2003 ultimately landing in Wooward, Oklahoma where he worked for Buddy's Tools. Upon retirement Jake settled in Wichita, Kansas with Pam to be closer to immediate family. They shared a home with his mother-in-law, Barbara Karsting.

Known as "Duckie" by Tammy's daughter, Horizon, and Casey's son, Charles, his grandchildren were his absolute joy. Jake enjoyed kids, and they him. He will be fondly remembered by his many niece's, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and a collection of others he "adopted" over the years.

Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and customers appreciated Jake's easy way. He has often been referred to as "a good man" by those who had known him. They will likely recall Jake as a proud American and a loyal Sooner fan in addition to being a devoted father and grandfather. He was also an avid reader. His acumen for obscure words gave him the definite advantage when playing word games.

Perhaps most recognized about Jake was his life-long passion for rattlesnake hunting. The team of Wes Kornele, Jake Walker and Phillip Welty trekked together many miles over the years, seeking to best their own records with the largest snake. They planned free time and vacations around the efforts and participated in countless hunts across Oklahoma and into southern Texas, often with the result of a trophy.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday March 30, 2019 from 2:00 until 4:00 pm in Freedom, Oklahoma at the Freedom American Legion Building.
