Irene Goldie (Lorenz) McMurphy was born in Blaine County near Okeene, Oklahoma on January 27, 1921, the daughter of Millie and Emanuel Sam Lorenz. She attended Liberty School through fifth grade. Her family then moved to a farm near Reeding and she attended school there. Irene moved to Freedom, Oklahoma in 1937, where she worked for a family in their home.

On September 17, 1938, Irene married Pete Edward McMurphy at Seiling, Oklahoma and they made their home near Mutual. In 1939 they moved to Woodward. Their son Gary was born on November 15, 1941. Pete and Irene enjoyed twenty-nine years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1967.

Irene worked as a domestic housekeeper for various Woodward residents, until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church. Irenes friends and family often referred to her home as a dolls house, because she was known for her meticulous care of her home and personal appearance. She was a friendly and fun loving person who loved dolls, delicate figurines, needlework, crafts, and colorful flowers. Her beautiful yard won several awards.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Tim McMurphy of Buffalo; Jeff McMurphy and wife Karen of Owasso; Tanya Johnson and husband Eldon of Perry; six great-grandchildren, Zachery McMurphy; Braden and Kyla McMurphy; triplets Jordan, Devan, and Brekyn Johnson; sister, Lela Reed of Guthrie; nieces, nephews other family and friends.
