Hayner's Story

Hayner D. Brown, 86 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Woodward. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Elmwood Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Woodward Masonic Lodge #189. A Memorial service will follow at the First Baptist church with the Reverend Jeff Barros officiating. Services are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Hayner Dwight Brown was born February 1, 1931 in Arkansas City, Arkansas; he was the son of Hayner Young and Helen (Dyas) Brown. He grew up in Waynoka and Fairview, Oklahoma graduating from Fairview High School in 1949. Hayner entered the United States Marines Corp in 1951 and achieved the rank of Sergeant before he was discharged in 1954. On May 26, 1963, he was married to Laura Mae Cooper in Keyes, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Enid. Hayner was employed at Wireline Services and Petroleum Technical.

He enjoyed watching television and reading. Hayner loved watching football especially his favorite team the Dallas Cowboys.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Hayner belonged to the Masonic Lodge Scottish Rite, Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls.

Survivors include his wife, Laura of the home; one son Dempsey Brown and wife Shelly; one daughter, Desha (Brown) Knapp and husband Brian; one sister, Pat Clark and husband Hal; one grandchild, Terra Jones; several nieces nephews other family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the Parkinson's Foundation and the Shriner's Hospital with the funeral home accepting the memorials
