Harold's Story

Harold R. Crain, 86 year old former Tangier resident and current Woodward resident, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 10, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Peggy Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Harold Ralph Crain was born on December 10, 1929 in Woodward, Oklahoma to John and Anna May (Boyle) Crain. He grew up on the family farm near Tangier. He attended school at Happy Valley and graduated from Tangier High School in 1948. Harold was united in marriage to Lucille Mae Schaeffler on August 14, 1948 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They bought the family farm in 1950 and they remained on the farm until they moved to Woodward in 2000. They were blessed with four children: Ralph Lee, Wesley, Patty, and Pamela.

He drove the school bus for the Tangier schools and he later helped with the construction of the grain elevators in Woodward. Harold also worked for Razien Metals and for several different contractors, building homes. He went into business for himself building homes until his retirement. Throughout his life, Harold also maintained his own farm.

Harold was a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle and Sunday drives with the family.

He is survived by his wife Lucille Mae Crain of the home; two sons, Ralph Lee Crain and wife Lawanda of Woodward, Wesley Crain and wife Marilyn of Woodward; one daughter Patty Huckaby and husband J.C. of Dodge City, Kansas; two sisters, Fannie Taylor of Oklahoma City, Edna Conine of Woodward; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Crain, his parents John and Anna, two brothers-in-law, Mike Conine and Lee Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
