George W. Springer, 90 year old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Alliance Health of Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Jeff Barros officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
George William Springer was born May 14, 1927 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to William and Alma (Meek) Springer. George grew up on the Big V Ranch. He attended Ponca City schools and graduated from Ponca City High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted into the United States Army on July 20, 1944. He served his country during World War II in Japan. George was a Sharpshooter with his M-1 and earned several medals including, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 12, 1946 as a Sergeant.
He was united in marriage to Betty Ann Huskey on September 2, 1949 in Ponca City, Oklahoma by the Reverend Charley Shedd. To this union two sons were born, George William Jr. And Timothy Lynn, whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty; two sons, George and wife Tanya of Denton, Texas, Tim and wife Merry of Woodward; special niece, Pat Phillips and her husband Don, Daughter Annie and Pats son Mike; four granddaughters: Erin, Kyra, Rayna, and Cameron; one grandson Eric; six great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and one brother.
George was a loving husband, father, Pappa and uncle. He will be greatly missed.
