Elmer's Story

Elmer L. Regan, 89 year old Woodward resident, died Friday, January 26, 2018 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Elmer Lee Regan was born November 22, 1928 on the family farm northwest of Shattuck, Oklahoma to Orville and Amy (Shelton) Regan. Elmer lived on the farm and attended Linscott Country School until the family moved into Shattuck when Elmer was eight years of age.

He was united in marriage to Lena Mae Sweet on April 9, 1949 at the Baptist church parsonage in Woodward, Oklahoma. They were blessed with three children, Deborah, Greg, and Pam. They made their home on 6th street in Woodward, before purchasing their first home in 1959.

Elmer began his career at the age of 14 in Shattuck, Oklahoma and in 1947, he moved to Woodward to work at Adams Brothers Grocery. While working there he advanced to meat market manager. When United grocery bought them out, he continued in the meat market until retiring in 1992.

Elmer was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid OSU football fan. Elmer loved going to OSU football games with his daughter Debbie for many years. He also enjoyed fishing in Colorado at Rainbow Lake with family. One of his favorite pastimes was playing bridge and cards with friends at the Domino parlor. Elmer loved to walk through all grocery stores . He also loved Western Swing and Bob Wills music, particularly the fiddle and enjoyed dancing to that music.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lena Mae Regan; one son, Greg Regan and wife Anita; one daughter, Pam Martin and husband Bruce; seven grandchildren: Phillip Bruton and wife Deni, Kerry Price and husband Dustin, Lindsay Bilbrey and husband Levi, Christa Wall and husband Tyler, Tyson Martin and wife Courtni, Paige Martin and companion Joe Flenniken, Kris McVicker and husband John; 14 great-grandchildren; special niece, Gail (Schoenhals) Petree; special nephews, Mark Schoenhals and wife Margie and Randal Regan; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lester Regan, Leona Schoenhals, Jean (Tudor) Endsley, daughter Deborah Bruton, son-in-law Leroy Bruton and great-granddaughter Keilee Martin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Circle of Care, Woodward Foster Homes or the First United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
