Elmer's Story

Elmer Ray Hunter, 93 year old resident of Fort Supply died Friday, February 6, 2015 in Buffalo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 10, 2015 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jim Steenbergen and the Reverend Todd White officiating. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Elmer Ray Hunter was born May 15, 1921 in Cestos, Oklahoma; he was the son of Elle Reece and Viola Bell (Worthington) Hunter. He spent his childhood in the Cestos area and attended a small country school. He worked on various farms before enlisting in the U. S. Army during World War II serving in the European Theater. Elmer returned home and on April 17, 1946, he was married to Iantha Pearl Johnston in Liberal, Kansas. The couple made their home in Liberal before returning to Fort Supply where Elmer was engaged in farming and ranching. To this union, seven children were born. Elmer went to work at Western State Hospital in the early 1950's, working there for the next seventeen years. He also continued to farm and operated the Texaco Station in Fort Supply before retiring. Following his retirement he tinkered with lawn mowers and spent time with his kids and grandkids. Elmer is survived by his children, Jim Hunter and wife Joyce of Yukon; Kenny Hunter; Marie Tune and husband Bill; Ellen Hunter; Terry Hunter and wife Susan all of Fort Supply; Troy Hunter and wife Debbie of Woodward; 18 grandchildren, Chris, Chad, Warren, Todd, Kevin, Jared Hunter; Wayne, Allen, David, and Bob Tune; Jamie, Corey Lane, Shannon Ruggs, Christy Lane, Amanda Ball, Kimberley Hunter, Ronda Guerrero, Londa West; 42 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Seeman of California; Juanita Shane of Kingman, Kansas; sister-in-law Margaret Hunter of Oakwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Charley Hunter, five brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be given to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Diabetes Research with the funeral home accepting the memorials. Remembrances may be made at www.billingsfuneralhomewoodward.com
