He competed in bareback riding, bull riding, and calf roping. On September 23, 1961 he married the love of his life Joyce Hunter at her parents house in eastern Ellis county. To this union of 53 years, three sons were born: Jimmie Duane, Jeffery Dale, and Joe Don. The couple made their home in Grand, OK until 1963, when they moved 11 miles south of Arnett. They remained on this homestead until 1995 when they moved to town. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Oklahoma Cattleman's Association, and the Ellis County Fair Association as well as a member of the Arnett Church of Christ. As much time as he spent taking care of livestock, Earl Dean's first priority was taking care of his grandchildren.
