Donald's Story

Text size

Donald Elmo Parry was born August 4, 1938 east of Vici, Oklahoma to Nigel (Dude) and Lois (Cunningham) Parry. Don was raised on Kizer Creek, east of Vici, which is where he attended both elementary and high school, graduating with the class of 1956. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Randolph on February 1, 1958. They were happily married for over 58 years. Don & Bonnie lived in the Vici area until May 31, 1964, when they moved to the farm that they called home. They lovingly adopted two children into their home, Teri and Jay, who always knew that Dad would stand behind them and support them to the best of his ability.
Don worked a few odd jobs in his early years, including going on wheat harvest, picking cotton, and working in OKC. But when he married Bonnie he then worked at the Vici Coop for many years, and often reminisced about driving the propane truck from Arnett to Chester. He worked as a carpenter for the remainder of his career, first for Wes Moss, then with Rabbit Burba, and later with Butch Barr for many years. Don also planted and harvested wheat and raised both cattle and hogs. He had a farmer's heart, and always planned on next year's crop being better, but he finally gave in and planted the wheat pasture to grass just a few weeks ago.
In September of 1977 the family moved to the brick home Don planned and he and Bonnie built themselves. Don rodeoed for a few years when he was younger; but next to farming, his passion was quail hunting. He killed many birds, and raised many beloved bird dogs through the years, but none as special as "Princess". He also enjoyed fishing, and spent many hours as a boy at the creek, then later enjoyed taking his family to Lake Texhoma. He was very proud of his kids and grandkids, and attended and supported many school activities through the years and travelled many miles to watch his kids and grandkids show hogs, sing, or play ball. Don also shared a special relationship with his son-in-law Shawn and often said he couldn't have chosen anyone better. He was very devoted to Bonnie, and cared for her through her illness at home as long as he could, then visited her daily at the nursing home until she passed in August.
Don attended the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn where he was baptized August 19, 2013. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie; parents, Nigel and Lois Parry; in-laws, Ernie and Theo Randolph; brother, Tom Parry, and sister-in-law's, Betty Ferguson and Babs Parry, and brother-in-law Sonny Bateman. He is survived by daughter, Teri and son-in-law, Shawn Allen; son, Jay; and grandkids, Dylan Allen and Morgan and husband Paul Gonzales. Also; brothers: Jerry & wife Marvale Parry, Harlow Parry, Lonnie & wife Linda Parry; and sister Bev Bateman; brother-in-law, Eldon & wife Sharon Randolph, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
