Dean's Story

Dean Young, 93 year old Woodward resident went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 7, 2016 in St. Anthony's Hospital, Oklahoma City after a strong fight with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the First Assembly of God Church with Reverend Gary Gunsolus officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lon D. "Dean" Young was born May 18, 1922 to Ada Druscilla Simons and John E. Young in Shattuck, Oklahoma. The family lived in San Antonio, and Amarillo before moving to Pampa, Texas. Dean met his life long sweetheart Eycile Wade while working at Ideal grocery store. They were married on April 24, 1943 in Borger, Texas. They both knew each other, each were the love of their life. They began their life in Pampa, before moving to Woodward in 1961 working for Amoco Oil. Dean retired from Amoco after many years of service.

Dean strived to serve the Lord throughout his life. He was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church, where he had served as a Deacon.

His family was a very important part of his life. He was always a dad and granddad that all the family looked up to for guidance. His heart was so full of love for his family and all his adopted family.

Dean was a life long Texas Longhorn Fan! He was a Texas gentleman through and through.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Eycile; son, Jack Young and wife Sharon of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Jeffrey Young and wife Julie of Moore; Brett Young of Oklahoma City; two great-grandsons, Austin Young and Evan Young both of Moore; sister, Johnnie McCrate of Enid; many nieces, nephews, and life long friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Myrtle Briles; and brother, John Young.
