Carolyn Ann Swallow
Carolyn Ann (Turner) Swallow was born January 22, 1936 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Roy (Raymond) and Ethel Marie (Stoner) Turner. She grew up in Woodward, mostly on Main Street as her folks owned and operated the Cattlemens Café and Woodward Recreation and was known by the business people as the (Main Street Brat). Carolyn attended Woodward schools all 12 years and graduated with the class of 1954.
She was united in marriage to LeRoy Jay Swallow on August 7, 1954 in Clayton, New Mexico. They made their first home in Forgan, Oklahoma where they operated the Conoco Gas Station. LeRoy joined the union and became a carpenter and milright, this took them to many places to live including, Liberal, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas, Dover, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Woodward and Fort Supply. Carolyn worked with her parents in numerous cafes they owned and she also worked as a Nurse Aide at the Woodward Hospital and at the Liberal, Kansas Epworth Hospital. Carolyn worked at the Western State Hospital for 35 years as Director of Recreational Therapy and took great pride in helping others to succeed.
Carolyn was a member of the Roadway Baptist Church in Fort Supply. She enjoyed arts and crafts, collecting frogs, watching the kids activities, watching all OU and OSU sports, horse and dog racing and going to the casino. She was a member of the Rainbow girls, Charter member of the Western State Auxiliary, where she served as President. Carolyn loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved being together with family and friends and babysitting the grand and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed teaching them to fish and play games together.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Swallow, Russell Swallow; daughters, LaNita Holloway and husband Bobby; Rita Redfearn and Greg Beauchamp; sister Marie Woodmansee; grandchildren: Rusty Lynn Redfearn and wife Kendra, Randy Dean Redfearn, LaDonya Gay Swallow, Ryan Lee Swallow, Rachelle LeAnn Swallow, Landon Robert Swallow, Larissa Zeman and husband Cody, Taylor Danielson, Justin Wayne Swallow, and Blaire Beauchamp; great-grandchildren, Rayce Reed Redfearn, Katum Marie Redfearn, Abigail Marie Swallow, Walker LeRoy Zeman, and Ramsey Jean Trupe; other relatives and many friends.
Carolyn loved life, children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She encouraged them to do their best to better their lives. She was always willing to help out anyway she could as she was LeRoys care giver. Carolyn loved Woodwards Main Street and business people especially from 1938 until 1954, as she knew all of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy Swallow on November 28, 2008, her in-laws, Willard and Lily Smith, her daughter Theresa Ann Swallow, daughter-in-law, Lisa Swallow and brother-in-law, Bob Woodmansee.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roadway Baptist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
