Barbara's Story

Barbara Irwin, 74 year old Woodward resident, died suddenly Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Friday, 26, 2016 in the Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Shane Rackley officiating. Burial will follow in the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Barbara June (Longhofer) Irwin was born on June 9, 1941 in Higgins, Texas to Jonas and Tilly (Kelln) Longhofer. Barbara grew up in Shattuck and attended the Seventh Day Adventist School in her younger years and graduated from Shattuck High School. Barb was untied in marriage to Adrian Dean “Chuck” Irwin on November 25, 1970 in Portales, New Mexico. Chuck and Barb made their first home in California where they owned a trucking company. They later moved back to Shattuck and in 1980 they moved to Woodward. They have lived in the same home since 1989. She started out attending Draughon Business School in Oklahoma City and she then attended beauty school in Elk City. Barb started working at the Woodward Hospital in 1983 and was still working there at the time of her death. She enjoyed working at the hospital and loved going to work every day. Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially cooking and baking for them. Some of her favorite times were when all of her kids and grandkids would come to her home. She always enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activity’s, going camping and attending ball games. She is survived by her husband Chuck Irwin of the home; one son, Michael Brian Hagen and wife April of Woodward; three daughters, Lianne Covalt of Woodward, Denise Irwin Dixon and husband Mark of Woodward, Lori Untalan and husband Greg of Iowa Park, Texas; one brother Gerald Longhofer and wife Judy of Lindel, Texas; three sisters, Opal Longhofer of Oklahoma City, Leola Rough of Kaufman, Texas, Darlene Ley and husband Bill of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren, Clay Landrum, Blaire Untalan, McKenna Untalan, Justice Langston, Chelsey Tapia, Kristin Covalt, Shaylee Bennett, Lacee Darr, Adrian ShyAnna Dixon, Chaz Dixon, Zayden Dixon; eight great-grandchildren, Macy Denney, Jada Covalt, Laleigh Ann, Hadleigh June Bennet, Harper Landrum, Avery Landrum, Payten Chenault, Paycee Chenault; sister-in-law, Sonja Peach, Nita Irwin and Rick Lauguardia; brothers-in-law, Jack Irwin and wife Sue, Carl Irwin and wife Carol; she was also blessed to have many numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas and Tilly Longhofer, brother Virgil Longhofer, son Jerry Keith Irwin and sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Stovall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
